7:05 p.m. Welcome. Hillsdale Neighborhood Association welcomes new Board member, Rick Meigs.
7:07 p.m. Discussion.
- The Hillsdale News seeks ideas for stories of interest to the local community. Contact Rick Seifert at firstname.lastname@example.org.
- Because of changes to the HNA website, some people may no longer be receiving HNA announcements. Visit hna-pdx.com to sign up again.
7:10 p.m. Committee Reports.
Transportation Glenn Bridger presented. The Sunset Boulevard sidewalk project is under construction. Sunset has one-way access, and a detour that HNA was not notified of. The Spring Garden project near the Golden Touch Restaurant is running a few weeks behind schedule. This Fall the Transportation Committee will prioritize projects for the SW area, and share the list with the City. Several unattractive banners are being displayed in Hillsdale. Duane Hunting stated that there are numerous, and sometimes conflicting, codes and ordinances covering this type of signage, so the rules for enforcement are unclear.
Hillsdale Alliance Glenn Bridger presented. The July meeting was cancelled. Next meeting is October 9. Robert Hamilton will contact Ward Greene of Senior Advocates for Generational Equity, SAGE, to discuss Elders in Action’s ongoing efforts to make Hillsdale more age-friendly.
SWNI Glenn Bridger presented. SWNI mailed the SW News to every household in SW Portland. Glenn will follow up with SWNI to see about getting a Volunteer Recognition 2013 plaque recognizing Hillsdale’s Unsung Volunteers.
Hillsdale Main Street Rick Garfinkle presented. HMS seeks help with four things.
- The project that will provide the business district with well-designed recycling containers needs follow-through.
- HMS needs someone to create an architectural rendering of the Plaza.
- A water bike – a bike with a water tank – is needed to transport water to the flower baskets and the new planters.
- HMS is looking for ways to raise additional funds.
Hillsdale Business & Professional Association The Pancake Breakfast and Book and Art Sale will be July 28, and volunteers are still needed. Peter DeCrescenzo suggested placing donation canisters at Hillsdale businesses, to solicit donations and volunteers for HMS and HBPA events.
Schools Michael Reunert presented. The legislature passed a budget that provides more funding than last year for public schools, but Hillsdale schools will still have some staffing cuts. August 24 is Community Care Day at Wilson. The construction fence at Wilson has closed off the sidewalk near the front door.
SW Trails No report.
Parks No report.
Land Use Duane Hunting presented. On SW Dosch Park Lane, the homeowners are requesting a variance to remove the existing deck and build a larger one in its place. Contact Duane if there are concerns. No action taken.
8:12 p.m. Announcements. No HNA meeting in August. The next HNA meeting will be September 4 at 7:00 p.m. at St. Barnabas. The HNA Board will meet immediately beforehand at 6:30 p.m.
8:13 p.m. Adjourn.
Motion to adjourn, seconded, all in favor.
